Job Responsibilities:
Be a part of a professional team responsible for developing and implementing media relations programs and activities to protect and enhance National Grid's reputation and brand and support its business goals. As a Media Relations Specialist, you will work collaboratively at the local level with Corporate Affairs colleagues and jurisdictional/functional subject matter experts to develop and deliver well-defined media relations programs that support business objectives and goals. Your will represent the company as spokesperson to the media at the regional/local level on company activities, policies, issues, programs and positions, as required, in order to ensure that National Grid?s brand and reputation are protected. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with local PR agency to ensure that National Grid's brand, image and messages are communicated positively. and that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner
  • Develop and maintain solid working relationships with all key local reporters and as required to ensure that key messages and brand are understood and embedded (includes digital media).
  • Provide media advice and counsel to jurisdictions/functions at the local level to facilitate timely and accurate responses to media inquiries that protect and enhance National Grid's reputation and brand.
  • Implement crisis communication procedures to protect National Grids reputation and brand.
  • Research sources and select relevant information in order to enable the analysis of key themes to feed into communication plans and programs.

    Job Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field and/or 3-5 years of demonstrated, direct media relations, spokesperson and writing experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to adapt the content and style of communication to appeal to media with the right messages in order to effectively convey National Grid's key messages and brand
  • Actively builds and maintains a network of internal and external relationships in designated local jurisdictional and functional areas
  • Identifies and has good working knowledge of contacts within the local media market and an understanding of local operational, community relations, functional and public policy issues
  • Is a team player, possesses positive expectations for team members and expresses regard for them.
  • Shows initiative and the ability to act quickly and decisively.
