Recent Arctic Chill is a Reminder to Get Your Home and Business Ready for Winter

Saving Energy Helps Reduce Your Bill and Protect the Environment

November 26, 2014 – The recent Arctic Cold snap is an excellent reminder to get your home and business ready for the winter and National Grid’s energy efficiency programs can help bring energy savings, reduce heating bills and help protect the environment.

From small actions around the house to upgrades in a business, National Grid’s Energy Efficiency programs can add to a customer’s comfort and energy savings while lowering energy bills and reducing their carbon footprint. National Grid offers incentives for New York Metro area customers that cover a wide variety of energy efficient equipment for residential and multi-family homes and businesses including programmable thermostats and high-efficiency natural gas heating furnaces or boilers.

Natural gas remains an economical and environmentally friendly fuel choice. National Grid has a number of Energy Efficiency Services including savings, tips and much more for residential customers, multifamily buildings and businesses.

Douglas Elliman Property Management (DEPM) is one of the largest residential property management companies in New York City, managing over 350 properties in the Metro area. DEPM took advantage of National Grid’s energy efficiency program for multifamily buildings with a 38 residential building complex with 1,500 individual apartment units in Woodside and Sunnyside, Queens.

Last fall building management conducted a pilot by installing boiler controls on the heating equipment in eight of the buildings, resulting in a 15 percent reduction in heating costs. The controls allow DEPM to monitor boiler and heat levels remotely and identify and resolve heat level issues promptly.

Using a computer, smart phone or any internet compatible device, DEPM can log in and view temperatures in each of the eight buildings. This accessibility allows them to prevent overheating and keep temperatures steady. DEPM is in the process of installing boiler controls in the remaining 30 buildings.

“The energy efficiency incentives offered by National Grid encouraged us to look into making these upgrades,” said Steve Stadmeyer, General Manager, Douglas Elliman Property Management. “Now we can monitor heating levels from a smart phone and costs are down.”

DEPM, founded in 1911, focuses exclusively on property management and is one of the oldest management firms in New York City. More information can be found at ellimanpm.com or facebook.com/douglasellimanpropertymanagement.
